As far as i know Maldives Monetary Authority Along with other Banks in maldives and two Mobile Service Providers funded by the World bank are going to establish Mobile Banking in the Maldives by the end of the year 2009. this will provide the path to do all what we could do on internet banking on the Mobile phone where a community of 3 lakhs have more than that amount of Mobile Subscribers.
and it also seems that the mobile banking establishment in the Maldives is going to be a groundbreaking one. i sure hope it would be that successful and an example solution.
as per the security MMA claims that they will establish policies in place before the service is started.

This would be the bets Pilot for world ( third ) to adopt mobile banking. the demogrphy of maldives is teh main problem for conventional banking, so mobile bankning will be teh best option. besides 300000 local customers, 500000 + turists must be included in banking sector as temporory customer with deposits and let them spend from their mobile. The idea of offering the mobiles on rent for weeks period wold also work nice for attracting tourists in mobile banking project. normally tourists will not like to carry their cell phones to maldives. They can deposit money in local bank and get a mobile phone as cheque book to spend locally. they can return the phone on airport and collect thier balance from teh counter of bank. ( this is just an idea ) your comments will be appreciated
